The Portuguese Water Dog breed has gained some notoriety in recent years, with presidential pet Bo featured in media coverage far and wide.

Breed is where the similarities between Bo and Midnight end, with the vast gap between 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and skid row providing a grim reminder of just how many dogs end up desperate for our help through no fault of their own.

Midnight was once loved, then neglected when when a serious eye infection developed. His health deteriorated further, leading eventually to complete abandonment by his owners. Rescued from certain euthanasia at the shelter in which he landed, Bo is now in need of extensive veterinary care, including the removal of both eyes.
